A few weeks ago my furnace developed a vibration that can be heard throughout the house. Furnace mounting refers to how the furnace and its components are attached together. The blower wheel and housing will also squeal when they malfunction. Even if equipment is properly sized vibration issues can arise.

Because vibration is the source of noise from hvac systems management of those conditions is imperative to a quiet design. Understanding vibration and sound. My theory is that the fan works fine when it doesn t have to work hard but when pulling air through the filter which is new it has to work harder and vibrates. Control of hvac system sound and vibration are of equal importance but measurement of vibration is often not necessary to determine sources or transmission paths of unwanted sound or noise. First of all turn the system off immediately. If i remove the side panel of the furnace or if i remove the filter the vibration goes away. Loose parts on your furnace s housing can cause an annoying vibration sound when the furnace is running.

Blower and fan noises such as squeaks squeals and rattles may be transmitted through the duct system. When the blower is on there is a vibrating sound coming from the blower. When one set of bolts begins to come loose it starts to vibrate as the furnace works. Installing an acoustic rubber pad under the furnace specially if it is sitting on concrete will damp the vibration you hear through the pipes although the blower fan and motor are the most obvious parts to check take a look at the complete unit.

When the fan turns on vibrations occur from the fan and motor as the support rattle. One cause for this sound is that the blower wheel came loose from the motor shaft moved and is hitting the blower housing. The blower fan does not turn on every time. Could it be a problem with the blower motor bearings or the fan being out of balance.

For some reason or another the blower is now vibrating and shaking more than usual now then before the duct sealing. I have a trane xe 900 that is not cooling. The answer is a number of different bolt systems. For some units this sound is normal upon start up.

Like with compressors and chillers the effect can be minimized with adequate equipment selection and the use of damping pads. Blower motor mount squirrel cage plenum filter too small or the furnace itself vibrating. The mounts may be loose or corroded and require tightening and or replacement to make sure the fan operates smoothly again.
