How to fix matted stuffed animal fur.
With some simple fur brushing and some some tape you can refluff and bring new life into an old stuffed toy.
Hard to know without seeing a picture sometimes people wash their stuffed animals and put them in the dryer and it crinkles or fries the plush and you can t fix that.
You should never ever put them in a dryer.
A regular hairbrush can be used but it should have soft widespread bristles.
After a wash they can lose their softness and fluffiness but don t worry.
There are a few ways to bring it back.
Then simply sew the new fur in place with a proper colored thread.
Once a stuffed animal is dried fluff up the fur gently with a brush.
One possibility is to trace the seams of the entire damaged piece and rip them to remove the piece.
The extreme heat of the dryer melts the synthetic fur of a stuffed animal vest or faux fur hood turning it into a matted mess once you remove it.
Sometimes you may have a dirty plush that you wanted to clean.
Some stuffed animals are made from synthetic fibers so special care needs to be taken to brush them.
These may be beatup or well played with by children and pets.
As you can see in the video the hair when they stand is all matted and looks horrible.
If you know that is not the case you can get a dog brush and try that starting at the ends and working up i find wire ones or widely spaced bristles with rubber tips work best.
Do not bring your faux fur to the dry cleaner as dry cleaning chemicals may reduce the material s softness potentially leading to matting and tufting.
That s why i always like to hand wash my stuffies especially when they ve just come back from the thrift shop and i don t necessarily know.
Some stuffed animals have very nice and fluffy fur.
When a stuffie has been through the washer dryer its fur can become matted easily especially longer fur.
All you need is some patience and a little work and you can make your stuffed animals fluffy again.
Then use the piece for a template to cut the new fur into the needed shape.
Machine wash your faux fur sparingly just a few times per year as a rule of thumb.
