If you have a performer series manual choke carburetor 1404 1405 1407 and 1412 you can use the electric choke conversion kit which is part 1478.

That circuit is always unfused and you do not want to wire an electric choke to an unfused circuit.
When the choke is activated the amount of air entering the carburetor is reduced increasing the amount of fuel that enters.
If the choke does not close enough turn the choke housing counter clockwise until the choke is just closed.

If the choke stays on too long or does not come all the way off then turn the choke housing clockwise until the choke just begins to open and stop and tighten the screws.
If it were to short out it would just continue to burn and melt the entire time the ignition was turned to the on position because there would be no fuse to keep the circuit in check.
This change in ratio between fuel and air helps the engine first start up.
